A new wave of the highly successful Echo Campaign series will air in Tasmania during October 2007. The new anti-smoking campaign encourages smokers to put quitting on "today's agenda" by tackling the excuses for delaying quitting.

The new Echo III campaign complements the previous campaigns in the series that were aired in Tasmania in 2005 by introducing new excuses and health consequences.

The key message of the campaign is Quitting is hard... Not quitting is harder. The television advertisements remind smokers that help to quit smoking is just a phone call away. This can be done by simply contacting the Quitline on 13 QUIT (13 7848).

Results from the earlier Echo Campaign shows that it had been successful in achieving its objectives with smokers:

  • Two-thirds agreed that it reminded them of the dangers of smoking
  • Three out of four smokers who saw the advertising perceived it to be believable
  • Just under half found the advertising to be very relevant.

The new Echo III Campaign will air throughout October 2007 across Tasmania.

Want to quit?

An important part of this campaign is to make sure that smokers are aware that they are able to access information and support when quitting. This is available through the Quitline telephone support service. Quitline is a confidential and non-judgmental service run by specially-trained people.

Quitline advisors know how hard it can be for smokers to quit for good, and that it can take several attempts. They can provide information on any aspect of giving up smoking. The Quitline can send free self-help materials and offers a free telephone call-back support service to help smokers through the quitting process.

To order a FREE self help Quit Pack call the Quitline on 13 QUIT (13 7848) or click here.
