Sponge
This campaign was run during February/March 2008.
A remake of the iconic Sponge advertisement will air in Tasmania during February and March. The campaign is aimed at a completely new generation of smokers that may not have seen the original ad when it first aired almost 25 years ago. Sponge was the first ad to graphically demonstrate the very real dangers of smoking.
The original Sponge commercial was created by John Bevins for the NSW Health Department for use in one of the first major quit-smoking campaigns ever to air in Australia.
Sponge graphically shows the thick cancer causing tar that can build up inside a smoker's lungs. It's enough to make you sick...very sick.
Want to quit?
An important part of this campaign is to make sure that smokers are aware that they are able to access information and support when quitting. This is available through the Quitline telephone support service. Quitline is a confidential and non-judgmental service run by specially-trained people.
Quitline advisors know how hard it can be for smokers to quit for good, and that it can take several attempts. They can provide information on any aspect of giving up smoking. The Quitline can send free self-help materials and offers a free telephone call-back support service to help smokers through the quitting process.
To order a FREE self help Quit Pack call the Quitline on 13 QUIT (13 7848) or click here.
