Cigarettes are eating you and your kids alive

The Cigarettes are eating you and your kids alive campaign was originally developed and produced by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The campaign aims to convince smokers to quit for themselves and their children, by showing the devastating health consequences for children exposed to second-hand smoke. The campaign reminds smokers that when they smoke around their children they put them at risk of ear infections, asthma and deadly pneumonia. It also reminds smokers that smoking is linked to low birth weight and SIDS.

The campaign will air in Tasmania from March 4 to 25, 2012.

Access to information and support is an important part of any quit attempt, which is available through the Quitline telephone support service or by talking to your GP, Pharmacist or other health professionals.

The Quitline is a free confidential and non-judgmental service provided by specially-trained people. Quitline advisors know how difficult it can be for some smokers to quit, and that it can take several attempts. They can provide information on any aspect of giving up smoking. The Quitline can also provide free self-help material and offers a free telephone call-back support service to help smokers through the quitting process.
